Default Is this odd

While trying to replace my friends 09' transfer case plastic bushing, I notice his transfer case shift lever linkage stud, points down(this is the transfer case end) as to my 11' transfer case lever stud is horizontal. All pics I have been able to find are all horizontal. It also has a different bushing than my 11'.

I had 4 aluminum bushings machined, 2 for me and 2 for him. Mine went on fine and on his 09' the transfer case shift lever end in the console fit fine, but the cable end at the transfer case, the new machined bushing was to big!

If, I remember correctly, Jeep told me the bushings are the same for all JK's. So, if you do not mind checking, does your linkage comming off your transfer case point down or is it horizontal?

The connection should be horizontal. Has he ever had the transfer case worked on? Is he original owner? Sounds like something either got bent or??

He is the original owner and has never had work done to it. He took it off road once. It is all still stock, except for a Smitty xrc rear bumper. I well tell him to go to a Jeep Dealer and see what they say?

Did he yank the hell out of the shifter before the bushing let loose?
