Default Odd winch question

I'm currently trying to figure out which winch to go with and have run onto a question. On the VR series winches from Warn, can you move the control box and mount it over the spool? It's pictured over to the side in all the pics I've seen and I prefer the over the spool look.

Yes you can. I have the vr 10000 but i actually like it on the side for spooling purposes. It's a great winch

Thanks for the info. Does it come with the brackets to mount it on top or would I have to fab some myself?

Like the previous poster said I also prefer it on the side for both spooling purposes and air flow to the radiator, if you really wanted it in the center it would just require fabing a simple bracket or modifying the existing one, I have the vr8000 but all the brackets should be the same on all vr style winches...I've attached a pic of the bracket to hopefully give you an idea.

I don't think the winch solenoid would block anymore air than that license plate..lol...harmless kidding! Nice winch and bumper combo.

I've been seriously thinking oh ordering that stubby hybrid bumper and going with the same winch. How do you like the bumper?

Do you just turn it around? I'm an odd duck so if it doesnt actually center it, itll drive me crazy. I really like the winch, but I dont wanna have to mess with making a bracket that comes with other winches for cheaper. My XRC8 Comp never gave me any trouble on my 10, so I'll go the Smitty route again if I can't mount the control box over the center of the Warn VRs.

I love it man recessed winch plate, aggressive look, and it basically canceled out the weight of my winch compared to my original brick of a bumper with no winch...its made by rc..picked it up on e bay brand new 180$ shipped...I couldn't be happier! Its essentially a recessed winch plate with a couple frame rail covers

I'm the same way and in my instructions it only shows it being mounted in the side...I tried to mount mine in the middle and it would not be completely centered, i'm sure you could get it to work with a little modification but just flipping the bracket its not going to get you what you want. It will not be completely centered and flipping the bracket would also move the solenoid pack further forward, Ill check and see if I still have the instructions. Maybe it is possible and I just overlooked something
