Default odo off?

I have no prior experience with changing tire sizes but how much does this affect the odometer?

So going from 255/75/17 to 285/75/17 works out to a difference of about 5.4% under representation on the odometer. This would mean that I am getting better gas milage than I am calculating correct? Am I thinking out of my a$$ here?
