OEM supercharger?
So I'm told that Jeep just released their version of a supercharger for the 3.8L. I was told from a friend who is friends with a Jeep mechanic not to trade in for 12. They are blowing cylinders at 20k and he has changed a bunch of motors already. He said to wait another year for the price to come down on the new supercharger. I can't find any info on the supercharger. I will be camping with the mechanic this weekend so hopefully I can get some more info. Anyone know anything about this?
The new motors are way hyped. I test drove one at a dealership and right after turning the key the check engine light came on and the vehicle/engine was shaking violently. 16 miles on the odometer. Turned it off and on then was fine. The real gem that people don't seem to realize that the new 5 speed auto is making a huge difference, far more than the 3.6 itself. The new 5 speed is a nice transmission. Unless you floor it out of the gate every time or are a weaver on the highway I don't think it's worth trading for though. I'll keep my 3.8 and 42rle.
No flame but reports of friends friend mechanic stories are NEVER true. Things like :
"when the 2012 wranglers come out there will be 3 model levels. 3.8, hemi, and SRT8"
"Common rail diesels will be standard next year" - said in 2010
"All Jeeps WILL have the dana 60 axles from the RAM 2500" - not bad being they have not run dana axles since 2006.
But your case does sound right because you only need to follow what is hot now in the performance industry.
If Jeep released a charger it WILL be north of $8,000.00 no doubt. Hell the Hemi upgrade from Mopar performance is 18 grand ... for parts :0
I laugh at mother mopar as she watches the aftermarket .... sees what is hot ... and then acquires the product and charges a boatload more for it. And then discontinues it because of "no interest"

There is (Or was) a MOPAR SuperCharger for the 07 jk. They never offered it for any other model year. I asked my dealership about it and they said they would not install it in anything but an 07 (This was a while ago. Not sure if it's even still available)..
The supercharger that they chose to offer was a HESCO.
I did a fair bit of research for my 2010 JK Unlimited and decided that if I am going to spend any $$ on a performance boost that it would be the RIPP SC. I have seen them offered on Ebay for $2800 from trade-in's. They are 5K new which is not bad considering the boost they give the jeep, but more than I want to spend on something that's going to kill my warranty.

My 2 door could not pass vehicles on the highway or maintain speeds on mountain passes. The 3.6 will pass anything going up hill.
