Default oil change

To what percentage to yinz let your oil life get to before you change it? Or approximately how many miles? I'm at like 3400 and it sags 54% oil life.

So I'm curious what others on this site do.
Do you go my the oil life read out on your dash? Or do you go by an amount of time? Or do you go by mileage?

I've always done it every 3000 miles (5000 for synthetic) I don't trust what that thing says because I have driven over 9000 miles before it said I was due for an oil change. I would never leave oil in for that long.

I do mine every 6 months. Milleage wise, that would mean approx every 5000.

5000 miles here too, also a good time to rotate your tires.

Do you rotate tires every oil change or every other oil change? I have a spare that I wanna put into rotation.

Every 5k here with synthetic. Rotate all 5 tires at the same time.

Unless you're in really dusty conditions there's no reason not to follow the oil life monitor. Even with a conventional oil (that meets the required specs). Just don't exceed the maximum miles/time limits for warranty. The oil life monitors are pretty sophisticated, you can get a UOA to confirm the results or review the UOAs on BITOG.

It's not like these are DI engines or known sludgers. If the oil isn't depleted than it's doing it's job.
I wouldn't leave a cheap oil filter on for longer than it's intended life but there are longer life filters available.

SN, GF5 certified oils are a lot more robust than the oils from 5-10- or 20 years ago. Changing it out early isn't "cheap insurance" anymore than buying new tires because the current ones are half worn.

I do every 4-5kish with conventional. there are studies out there that show you don't need to do every 3k, the oil is usually fine at that point so why waste your $$.

Do check it though, my 3.8 burns oil so I will add some between changes.
