Default Oil Leak..

Ok we got my locker in today but now I have oil coming out of my axle at my passenger wheel.. I guess I need to replace that axle seal in the diff on the passenger side..

The people at Autozone are worthless.. Does anyone know if the JK Dana 30 axle seals are the same as older Dana 30's?
Even better does anyone have a part number I could use?

Thanks

Alright well I found the seal at Oreileys... I'm still not sure I need to put it in though..

Hopefully someone can offer some advice..

I thought when you changed the fluid that you filled it to the bottom of the hole.. That ended up being 1.5 qt. When I put the aussie locker in I put on a Riddler Diff cover as well.

When you over fill can it push out the seal rather than going out the breather?

Last night I drained the diff fluid ( was still full) and I only put in the recommended 1.05 quart. I've seen a little bit (a few small drops) but I dont know if thats what was left in my tube..

Any thoughts? Advice? Do you think I should replace the seal or do you think my over filling just caused some to push out the axle during turns?

The seals have to be pressed on to the axle shaft, usually with a hydro press. If fluid is leaking out, that means water can leak in...so yes, you need to replace the seal.

Does anyone know how much oil I should be putting in a Dana 30 with an Aussie Locker and a Riddler Diff cover?

When I first did it, I put in 1.5qt to where it was coming out of the oil check hole..
Everything I've found says to only put 1.05qt in..

Any ideas?

Whoops! I missed the part where it said Dana30
The 30's axle seals aren't pressed onto the axles on the 30's...they're pressed into the housing from inside the pumpkin and can be changed relatively easily (relatively if you don't mind pulling your carrier to do it)
You'll have to drain your pumpkin, pull your axles and pull out your locker to access the seals on either side....and so long as you don't mix up the shims (ie keep them in order) you can change the seals and toss everything back in and not have to worry about gear set up again or anything like that because it's already done. There was another dude on here that did a nice little write up...I'll search.

Sounds like your probably just fine though...my suggestion...just keep an eye on it for a few days, pull the plug and check the level, and keep an eye out for anything dripping out the tubes....it's possible that it's just residual oil that may have gotten into the tube during your install, but if after a few days its still leaking out and your losing your level in the diff than maybe you'll need to think about changing your seals....it can be very easy to knock them out of place when messing with the axles, or knocking that little spring off of them or tearing them...you get the picture. You didn't change to supperior axles by chance did you?

https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...ight=dana+seal

here it is...and despite his being a 44, the procedure is exactly the same for a 30.

Again...hoepfully you don't need to do this, keep an eye on it for a few days, but if your still leaking a bunch of oil out your tube...here it is
