Default Oil on pitman arm

This morning while I was driving, I noticed the steering felt a little flightier than normal. Got out and looked at the pitman arm. Looks like there is oil dripping onto the pitman arm. Anyone know what might cause this?

Had a feeling it was the gear box. I'm not exactly home right now. Safe to drive it home from where I'm at?

yea youll be fine. Checked the fluid level in the reservoir whenever you get the chance just to gauge how bad the leak is.

Looks to be about half way between the min and max point now. I'll stop and grab a bottle on the way home to keep with me until I can get it fixed.

How hard of a job is it to replace the box?

I've done it and its a pain. Its only 4 bolts attaching it to the frame, 1 bolt attaching the intermediate shaft, and the pitman nut. The hassle lies in the sheer weight and size of the box. I did it by myself but I definitely recommend having an extra set of hands to help you.

Cool. Thank you for all your help today. For now I have put Lucas stop leak in it just to slow down the leak until I have time to get it changed. Hopefully I can get to it quick
