Old Man Emu HD (Poss. Nitro)

I am looking to scrap my tera-flex lift kit for an Old Man Emu 3" HD kit. HD is for heavy duty, meaning the springs are stiffer to take loads. Has anyone run these springs with their OME kit? how stiff is the ride unloaded? how loaded does it have to be for optimal performance. Any comments on this kit etc.

Plz if you havnt run this set up dont comment.

Details:

My jeep has a curb weight of around 4500 ibs. unloaded.

I am usually driving around with a minimum of 5 gal of fuel, 5 gal of water + respective gear. My payload being around 200-300 ibs with no one in the car.

Maxed out.. 15 gals. of fuel, 15 gal. of water, respective camping gear, food... I would guess around 1000 pounds with a passenger, and of course the pooch.

Are you looking at the +40 springs or the regular OME Long Travel HD kit? I've got the OME LT HD kit and it feels a little stiffer then stock but not a bad ride at all and I'm still pretty stock as far as bumpers go. My only added weight is a 35" spare on the back.

Just the regular OME HD kit. With the new Nitro shocks... I like a stiff ride too. I just dont want to be bouncing around on bumpy pavement... and by bouncing I mean BOUNCING.

I think they're a little firmer than stock. I just weighed mine at 4700#s with 34s, the OME lift with adjustable front lowers. David sent the HD coils and it lifted me 3 1/2". The 375#s of bumpers and winch that just arrived will probably smooth it out a little. It'll end up around 5100# with full fuel, but no passengers or gear.

I've got the Nitrocharger shocks with regular duty springs and love the set-up. I can tell you that the shocks do an excellent job of controlling movement while being smooth as butter. I can't speak to how the HD springs might change this, but the Nitrochargers ride like a dream when combined with the RD springs.

I think I recently saw a thread where "wayolif" put these on his orange jk. I believe he said they give you over 4". Check out that. I have also heard they ride about the same as rubicon springs, some say even better with the nitro shocks.
I am looking at the same thing because I tow a M416 trailer and I am going to get heavier bumpers.

What's wrong with the tera flex lift? I was thinking of getting one... Whats your opinion on the lift?
pros and con's any thing would help me decide what to go with.

I have the OME HD LT kit and it rides as good or better then stock for me. I also have some significant weight in the back however with my Expo One Rear bumper and tire carrier and 35" spare. I think once I get a new front bumper, it will ride even better.

I'm assuming that the additional weight of bumpers, armor, and gear, really makes the HD coils ride their best. The lift height is a perfect ratio for 35's in my opinion.

So far I couldn't be happier. I can't compare it to other products like Teraflex however, as this is the only lift I've run.

I have the ome kit. front HD, back MD because of the weight of the bumper and winch. I always have trouble to believe when somebody claims their liftkit rides "better than stock". The increased height will affect the ride quality. But it's not a bumpy ride, just a little stiff.

OME HD coil spring lift....With stock bumpers it was stiff compared to stock ride.

With the addition of the LoD rear bumper/carrier and Front Mid-width with Warn winch and dropping tire pressure down to 32 PSI it rides just as good if not better than stock. Also, I did not lose much for sag after putting on this lift maybe 1/4" in lift at most. With more weight added in the back smoothed out the ride as well.

I've got the OME MD front and back and I just did 1200 miles to Big Bend State Parks and over 100 miles of offroading there. while offroad, I was rolling with 15+ gallons of fuel, 14 gallons of water, 6 people (I got passengers who like to stand in the trunk space) and it rode fine. I personally wouldn't go HD unless I was going to be towing stuff, or have a huge bumper with Gerry Cans/ racks with ice chests etc. hanging off the back.

Also I can guarantee my MD OME 2" kit rides better than stock. I drive 80 miles a day to work and back and there are some bumps on I-10 that would put me out of my seat stock, now I just feel the little flip flop in my tummy when I go over them at 70. I also have daily encounters with completely above the roadway railroad tracks, potholes you could lose children in, and other urban hazards (gotta love southside san antonio) that were just plain brutal, and now they are just a nuisance when I go over them. My mileage dropped a 1-2mph, I have major back and tailbone issues (old injuries) that the stock ride aggravated so bad that for a while I was looking at selling the Jeep this was my first and largest step in making the jeep more comfortable my back and I think it's worth it.
