Question Ome Lift

Ok, i'm a little confused i've read every were that the ome lift is 2'' but ive also heard that it gives a 4'' lift wat is the actual lift it gives. wat size tyres can you run also what back spacing, I'm looking at this kit along with RE 3.5'' lift but cant decide what one I'm tending to lean more towards the ome lift at this stage due to my buget...

All help is appreciated

Thanks guys

I think the difference in the lift is because of so many different options. I'm pretty sure the springs are the same for the 2/4 door so the overall weight of the vehicle is different and with identical setups the 4 door would compress the springs more than the two.

Another thing to consider is what additional weight has or has not been added.

A Jeep with stock bumpers, stock tires and soft top is going to naturally set higher than a 2 door with after market bumpers, winch, swing out tire carrier and a hardtop due to the weight.

I talked to David at Northridge 4x4 and he told me with my current setup (see sig) I should see about 2.5" of actual lift. Currently waiting on funds to replenish

According to the writeup WOL did you should be able to run 35's no problems.

It really does depend on your specific set-up. Figure out what your final configuration will be before you decide on a lift. The OME can be ordered with several different spring rates. I have a 4 door with over 200 lbs added to the front and 150 lbs to the rear. The OME I purchased from Northridge used HD springs up front and 300 lb constant load in the rear and I netted about 3.25" in front and 2.5 in the rear which was just what I was looking for as it got rid of some of the excessive nose-down rake mine had.

If you don't want as much lift or don't need it for added weight you could go with LD fronts and 0 lbs constant load in the rear. If I remember correctly the options are HD or LD for front and 0, 300, or 600 lbs rear.

I just installed my OME HD lift on my 2door Wrangler X and got 4 3/4" of lift in the front and 4" in the rear. I would not go with the HD set up if I didn't plan on putting heavy bumpers on my Jeep. Even at that, I doubt the bumpers will get me back down to 2" of lift, so take that into consideration. On the other hand, my 35" tires have PLENTLY of room!

Also, be prepared to spend some TIME on installing your OME kit. The write-up that Wayoflife did on the OME installation (which is essential when you consider that the kit doesn't come with instructions!) suggests that the process takes about 2 hrs. That may be true for a Jeep guru like Wayoflife, but if you have limited experience with these sorts of things like I do, you'll need more time than 2 hrs. to install everything.

Also most of those measurements are usually done right after the install... My guess is that after a few hundred miles and some off-road fun, the kit will start settling in and will probably loose a 1/2 inch or so...

Of course....the make of lift doesn't matter, if you raise the frame further form the diffs...the drive line angles are going to become more acute...and the shorter the shafts (Like on the 2 dr's....), the less lift it takes to make the angle TOO acute to work well, etc.

ANY coil spring will give rigs different lift heights...the lighter the rig, the more lift...the heavier you run, the less lift....etc.

Some coils settle more than others, some shot peened, well prepped, etc, etc, tend to sag less, or last longer before losing spring rate.

If a coil is labeled HD, etc...it implies its meant for rigs that might add winch/bumpers, skids, etc....and need a higher spring rate to compensate....if you get the HD coils, but do not have the extra weight ...you will have more than the intended lift, etc.

I got right at 3 3/4" front and 3 1/8" rear from my OME lift. No accessories, soft top. Installed a full size (35) spare and wheeled it a bit, now I'm sitting at 3 1/2" front and 3" rear. Love the ride and have zero complaints.
