Default Opened my front diff... What is this?

Just opened my front open diff to change the cover and found this attached to the drain plug. What is it and where is it supposed to be? I had my gears done last November.

You have a locked or running open diff? Looks as though it's the bar pin for the spider gears.

Looks like a roll pin to me. Also looks like a problem. Roll pins hold things in place.

so is there a way for me to get it back where it is supposed to be without taking everything apart or taking it back to the people that did the install?

This will be the second time taking it back to them with a problem. They're like 45 minutes away and I don't want them touching my jeep ever again

Hard to say without know exactly what it is. Do you have manual hubs on your jeep?
