and yup i've been leaning towards a standard but since i've never drive one i guess ill just have to learn, feels like more control and not as boring etc etc..+ MPG
and what are the "lockers" for?- yes im a newb.but im willing to learn!

just wondering...since the jeep is geared for torque, can you take off on 2-3rd gear?

Does any1 have any numbers or Gears and Speeds? or does it go by rpm? ...i should find a "Standard for dummies book" lol

Example:
Gears
1 1-5 mph
2 1-10
3 10-25
4 25-45
5 45- 60
6 60-80

Hey man...I have never owned a standard before I bought my JK less than 3 weeks ago. I have driven a friend of mines honda accord 5 speed twice cause I had too and my x-girlfriends like 93 mazda 3 a couple of times years back...other than that the only time I have driven a standard was when I test drove jeeps. Though I havent driven many...I will go ahead and say that it is one of the easiest I have ever driven. Like I said first one I have ever owned...I have no problem taking off from second, I have not tried third. As for when to shift. That is prefrence I go by RPMs usually around 2500 or 3000 I shift up. If you have to stop and then accelerate immedeatly(ie rounding corners, traffic) a good rule of thumb is if you are right around 20 mph hit second to take back of, Id say 25 to about 32 or so hit 3rd. just pay attention to your RPMs. When you go from 5th to 6th it is easy to hit 4th...just go to an empty parking lot and driver her around find some not so busy streets and practice taking off from hills. You will get the hang of it quick...I did! Hope that helped you a little?

I never say go with the Auto, but in this case ,go with the Auto. Me and many others are having problems with the 6 speeds, and I wish I could just turn back the clock and get the Auto now. So do it right the first time. Besides, it's easier and more controlled offroad with the Auto, even though the 6 speed isn't too bad either with the Rubicon package.
