Default ''Overdrive'' up-down-on-off constantly

What is the best cure for the constant up & down shifting of the auto trans at highway speed due to lift & bigger tires ? I don't want to drive all the time w/the overdrive turned off.

I have this problem with the heavy toyo m/t. Hoping the hypertech programmer will give me back the lost power at cruising speed since my jeep wants to run at 1800 rpm while cruising on the interstate. Mine usually runs good as long as the wind isn't blowing or any type of incline I run 33"s, if I was running anything bigger a regear would deffinately be in my future. I just didn't want to regear with a 33 though, so if the hypertech doesn't help I see my reason for larger rubber and gears. And my excuse to the wife: "I tried to save money baby, the jeep is still hungry."

I lust got back from a test drive where I borrowed a buddy's stage one chip . It helped very little. Definitely not enough to constitute the $250. Looks like it's new 513s this week. What would be a fair price for labor ?

Since you're complaining about the shifting instead of power then I think 4.88s will be sufficient for you. 5.13s will give you more get up and go and a slightly better crawl ratio at the expense of proportionally higher engine RPMs. A rough estimate for cost will be $600 for the gears + $200 overhaul kits + $600 installation for a total of $1400.

X2 - reputable shops around here are charging $1425 out the door (parts + labor + tax) for the pair. Not so reputable shops will charge much more - up to $1800 for the same work. If you are quoted much more than $1400, look around!

Edit: Should have defined "reputable" - have done a few and have no BBB complaints.
