Default Paint defects on black wheels (Pro Comp in this case)

I just bought a set of new Pro Comp black wheels. Upon inspection, I noticed that most of the lug nut wells are unpainted at the bottom (and a bit around the bottom). When used with black lugs it leaves a circle of chrome inside each well.

The word I got from Pro Comp was that this is normal (or the best they can do) and if I wanted better wheels I should return them and shop for something "higher end".

I was wondering if anyone else has run into this with Pro Comp or other wheels?

Thanks!

They are really done that way so the lugs will tighten properly.

Well... I don't quite know what to say to that. The paint would have no effect on the lug nuts seating. Also, these wheels use standard acorn style lug nuts and the unpainted area extends well beyond the seat and even to the surrounding walls.

Of the five wheels I received, one has all five wells completed coated. The others all have at least one completely coated. So, either their quality control is really bad since they're all not bare or it's really bad since their all not coated. Either way, it's really bad.

My ProComp 7069's are bare aluminum around the lug stud holes, in the "well". I'm okay with it.

I guess that's just the way it is. Since I already have tires on the way too I don't have many options. Time for some spray paint I guess!
