Default Paint Job Question

Hey Everyone, So I have been lagging on painting my chrome grille..My question is: What do I have to do in order to paint over the chrome? I'm going to herculine the grill but wondered what should I do before applying the paint! Plz Help!

I think if you just follow the herculiner instructions you'll be fine. Your grill isn't truly chrome plated, since it isn't metal. It just looks like chrome.
Scuff it up with the pad, clean it, and apply the liner.

uhh youre going to use roll on herculiner for the grille? or spray duplicolor bedliner? I think herculiner will be way to thick looking for the grille and I believe everyone here has used the duplicolor, you should use a 3m scotch-brite pad to scuff it up

Read the Herculiner or Duplicolor directions and keep in mind a coarse red scotchbrite pad on a good day is only going to give you a ~320- 500 grit scratch depending on brand which is way too fine if the directions spec say 100-220 grit scratches.


Too fine of scratches can lead to a loss of adhesion while too coarse of sand scratches may lead to not being able to fill those scratches with said coating.

I thought the "chrome" grill was just a cover over the oem grill if so pull it off sell it and use the money for something better
