Default Painting Poison Spyder Crusher Flares (Cost & Application)?

After some research I have decided to pull trigger on set of Aluminum Poison Spyder Crusher flares. I live in the NE and needed to consider both weight and rust. I was originally looking at Bushwacker, but have found an PS to be a better protective option.

I have a 2012 Black JKU, and would have preferred purchasing these in black. Any input on approximately how much painting them will be? Also, any recommendations on Paint vs. Powdercoating? I would even consider a rough protective paint like the Kevlar paint.

Any advice / input would be great!!

Yeah I'm a DIYer.. I'd paint them myself, thou may not match perfectly.. but for your application.. I'd say the powder coating would withstand a bit more punishment.. but then again.. bedliner might be another alternative.. Plus.. if they are going to see any abuse.. they will get scratched.. and the metal/aluminum will show through. Might even mask off those areas (edges) and leave them unpainted.. Sort of framed off.. Black and silver

Paint the whole flare, the aluminum unpainted will oxidize and look like shit after the first winter. Either use something you can touch up if you scratch it or take it to get line x done. Paying to get them painted will run you somewhere around 200-300 unless you have a hook up. There's plenty of info on painting aluminum yourself on the internet.

I elected to paint mine gloss black so that I can keep them waxed, etc. They are pretty shiny though. Powder coating will run about $750. My painted ones were $500, but I know the owner of the body shop. The only thing that bugged me was that he used filler to smooth out the surface and filled in the etched Poison Spyder logos...oh well.

I would have had him redo for free. If you didn't ask for it then it shouldn't have been done. That's expensive also for powder coating. Is that the only place you had to choose from for powder coating?

Yea, I would paint the whole flare. That does seem reasonable 50-75 per fender, and gives me the ballpark needed. Thanks!

I would love those flares but the price tag plus painting.

I bought the steel crushers. You can figure about 8 to 10 hours of labor plus supplies to paint them. Mine were kinda pitted so it took a little more work.

Dear lord, were tiny diamonds encrusted in the powder coat for $750? I paid $230.

I've been having all my parts powder coated black with a textured finish. What I've found out is the salt from the roads in the winter will seep into the microscopic holes and start to rust. Speaking with my powder coater it's the first he's seen this. We decided to blast my parts again and apply a zinc primer powder coat (for free). Then heat the part to 250* and apply the black texture again. It's looks beautiful and a lot more rugged than a standard textured finish, but not as ugly as thick bedliner. Just an tip since your in the NE. He quoted me the PSC flares at $400.
