Default Painting rock rings on your beadlocks/fake beadlocks

I am having my wheels put on this week - level 8 zx's with the rock ring/guard.

I am thinking about painting the ring red or white to match my all white jeep. Also to give contrast to the all black wheel.

For those of you that have painted your beadlocks/fake beadlocks/ or any part of your wheels...what paint and process did you use?

I have some rustoleum primer and white rustoleum automotive touch up paint that I used to paint my d-rings white and that has held up for months now. Would you suggest the same?

Maybe plastidip? If so, where are you guys buying this stuff? I looked at Home Depot last week and couldn't find any...

Thanks!

I can only address bead locks because I don't know what the difference is in tolerance for cosmetic rings.
You cannot slather on coatings to beadlock rings because it is too thick and will compromise the seating surface. I spent almost $400 to have my beadlocks painted, then they had to be removed and redone a second time.
Good luck, and know its an awesome appearance mod.

Any primer? Sanding/scuffing before hand?

Powder coating is an option, I just don't know if I want to spend that much $$$ on $175 worth of rings... That's my issue here

Hey, those are called "Beauty Rings" when I ordered another set for street. These things serve there purpose of saving my rims quite a few times (scraped, gouged out and cracked).

Just painted my ATX slab rings...
First, use 320 Grit sand paper,
clean real good with cloth.
Then self etching Primer 2 thin coats (10 mins in between)
Next, 1000 Grit sand paper to primer.
Then I used VHT satin black rattle can in 2 coats (10 mins in between)
wait 2 hours then a final wet coat (spray side to side quickly but spray till it glosses and has a wet look)
Make sure you dont spray paint in the sun. room temp is optimum.

Wait several days to fully cure...

Clear coat optional, I didnt use it so I could touch it up easily.

Came out perfect and matched the satin black to wheels.

Thanks or the tips. I picked up self etching primer, rustoleum auto enamel paint, and some fine grit sand paper from Home Depot today.

Now can't decide of I want to paint the rings white to match the jeep or go red and add some other red accents to the white and black theme...decisions...
