Painting Stock wheels HELP!!!!!
So I got my two front wheels ready to be painted satin black... I sanded, wet sanded and cleaned em off real good to make sure there is no sand, dirt, or anything on the wheel. So I started spraying and the paint was ok at first. Then It had little clear dots all over the place that the paint wouldnt stick to...
I was doing really light coats.
Im using Krylon Metal/wood satin black.
Any tips on why its doing this? I swear I sanded a lot, even the paint started coming off on the 2nd attempt...
So I just threw some paint thinner on the wheel to get it back to somewhat gray so I dont look like an idiot with one crappy looking black wheel until i figure this out

The dots are called fish eyes, and its from the silicon in the tire dressing. I'm not really sure what you can use to completely remove the silicon. The thinner will take care of it or you can try mineral spirits.
Maybe Ill Try Better Paint? Anyone have any suggestions??? I have Painted two sets of wheels before and never had this problem. Although last paint I used was Krylon as well, but I dont remember what it was called, i do know it was different than what im using now
You are exactly right! I found a thread on the self etching primer. Thanks bro! Looks like ill be tackling this tomorrow since the wife is on her way home.

If all else fails you can take them to get media blasted and powder coated. I did this with my wheels for my rhino and they turned out great.

Those look great!!
The way I went was to sand, clean, then use mineral spirits to clean.
I then used Rustoluem Self Etching Primer, x 2 coats per the directions on can.
Once those dried, I used Rustoleum Bed Liner. But at this step, you can use any paint you'd like. With you going the satin black shine, I would suggest putting a couple coats of clear coat afterwards.

When doing mine I sanded thoroughly then cleaned them really good. Let them dry good and put about eight light coats of Rustoleum gloss protective enamel. Worked great and haven't had to touch up yet, been about sevn months.
