Default PITA Synthetic Rope

Okay, so maybe ally'all already figured out an easy way to thread the synthetic winch rope thru the little hole in the winch spool,...

The problem is that as you push the cord, it gets fatter. A couple of beers later and it's next to impossible.

So I tried to pull it instead, by wrapping it with tapering tape. Still not an easy task. More beer.

So what I finally did was selectively remove several strands of the woven rope at around 4, 6, 8, and 10 inches from the tip. This made the end taper nicely, and I was able to pull the rope through the hole about 10-12 inches, which is more than enough to wrap the rope around the spool as directed. You lay the excess rope along the length of the spool and use duct tape to keep it in place as you wrap at least 8-10 turns of the winch with the rope on top of the end of the rope.

Sorry, there will be no fricking pictures so save yourself the trouble of lambasting me for this,...

I think there's a bolt of some sort to pinch it or keep it in place, but I'm net certain.

Steel cable just uses the the little bolt on the right side, its the wire rope its self that hold it onto the spool and also that why you do NOT unspool you winch all the way and use it to make a pull, you need to leave at least 5 to 8 wraps on the spool.

The bolt is just to get things started. The tail wraps across the spool and the last row of wound rope snugs it down tight.

Wire rope is done similar. There's an eye attached to the end of the wire that fastens by the little screw on the side of the drum.

That little screw can't hold squat on it's own. That why the Warn owner's manual states:

• Never winch with less than 5 wraps of wire rope around the drum, the wire rope could come loose from the drum.
