Its a water cooled engine so it really wont make any difference. You would have to add hood louvers at the least to see any noticeable difference.

I disagree. You ever felt engine cover after trail riding? There is a reason they leave em off fleet vehicles and its not cost. I've noticed a lot less heat waves coming off hood when trail riding since I removed mine

I'd imagine that it wouldn't change temps that drastically. if the cover is hot, it's because it's absorbing/displacing heat in my opinion. . But if I was trying to reduce heat, I'd think a more efficient radiator would be most effective, followed by more ventilation [ie- hood vents].. Then again, I'm no master mechanic..

I removed mine and it dropped the engine temp 10 deg or better and now there is no more melting plastic smell on a long day of wheeling.

If you have an electric fan, removing the cover won't do much to lower the engine temp. It will still range from thermostat temp to fan on temp. In the case of the 3.8, that's 195°F to 215°F. The 3.6 will be similar.

Now, adding a mechanical fan, which runs all the time, will keep the engine down to thermostat temp all the time.

The purpose of the engine cover is to reduce engine noise. Remove it if you want. You may notice a bit more engine noise, but I don't think it will affect engine operating temperature significantly.
