Default Poping noise!!

My 07 unlimited automatic popping noise going from reverse to drive and giving it gas. It's usually two popping noises right when I accelerate. It's driving me nuts and all my research has turned up no definitive answer!! Someone please help! Someone out there has to have had this problem, it's got a budget boost and 35's now but it did it when it was completely stock so it's not anything to do with that. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Does it sound like it's coming from the transmission, or is it possible it's coming from the rear driveshaft U-joint ( assuming you're in 2WD when this occurs)? If not, how about changing the transmission fluid and looking to see if you have metal in the pan suggesting a broken keeper ring or other issue within the transmission.

What kind of a noise does a Pope make anyways?

But really check your driveline for slop. Could be a Ujoint binding. Could be a tranny mount or a motor mount. Best way to check is to crawl under there with a pry bar and chack for slop.

Yes it's in 2wd and it's only when I go from reverse to drive, not like when im at a stop light and go. it's right when I accelerate forward directly from reverse. If I ease into the gas lightly it won't do it. It sounds like its coming from the rear some where. Does my stock DS have U joints? Thanks guys

You dont have U joints then but you do have CV's. Same thing, checkem for slop. My bet is a mount. Maybe the crossmeber bolts. Like I said your gonna have to crawl under and look.

Like transfer case and transmission mounts? My rear drive shaft should have a little play right?

Yes on the mounts. On the shaft you should have forward and aft play but almost no side play. Just thought of something. You should find a parking lot and see if you can get a friend to recreate the sound while you listen for where its coming from. Might help you narrow it down.

My rear brakes make a clunk noise every morning as I back down the driveway... when I stop and go from reverse and then go forward I hear a clunk, sometimes when I first brake going forward depend on how I change directions (using the foot brake or just slipping the trans). I checked it out, I can kinda replicate it using the Ebrake. I think one of the springs is weak and a component gets picked up slightly askew and then plops back in to place since it is not tracking quite right and then makes a mechanical thunk sound when it reindexes. Worth a look. If your ebrake feels bumpy when you raise and lower it (keep the button pushed in) it might be the brake mechanism.

Have a similar issue . May help. So I park on a hill nightly. So naturally I roll down when I head to work in be morning. When I put it in reverse I hear a clunking sound. I took this to the dealer and tested on another 2012 jk ; same sound. They informed me its because the way the auto tranny works is it moves to one side for reverse then the other for drive so when on a hill you will hear the clunking??? Still trying to make heads or tails on it but. I posed the question so if I'm climbing a hill and get stuck and put it in reverse I could ruin my transmission? He didn't answer. Any who back on topic. There's alot of factors that come into play I've noticed. Going to neutral then quickly to drive helps , being on level ground prevents it. I think it's just the nature of the beast.
