Default Popping out of 4th

I searched but haven't found any posts with a definitive answer so I'll just create a new post.

Recently while driving I've noticed first gear popping out of gear, no big deal I'll start out in 2nd. The problem is 4th gear, it grinds going into gear and also pops out of 4th as soon as I take my hand off the shift knob. (6speed manual). I've heard it could be synchros or the inner shift boot. Anyone else had this issue or should I just pull the tranny and rebuild it?

Mine also pops out of 4th. I brought it to the dealer a few times to replace the inner shift boot, but they couldn't seem to manage to replace it and I got sick of giving them my Jeep. It only happens once in a while, and even less since I make a point of putting it very positively into 4th. I'll keep an eye on this, I'd like a fix as well.

Default mine did this from the time i bought it

i fist thought i was dong somthing wrong like not used to the jeep shift pattern and then i said nope its f @@%ed up and took it in made them find out why
they tore into it at 3000 miles and replaced 3rd and 4th syncro and fork and put it back problem gone ! i still have the neutral noise when in idle like a big drive shat nuckle hitting the housing but they claim cant be fixed its roll over noise and thats factory tolerance specs some do it some dont i now have 20,000 on it no issue
it dosent do it bad but i can hear somthing hitting as some thing is spinning ill live with it

but yours is the syncro and fork no doubt in my mind ! been there you end up looking for 3rd just cuz it wont go into 4th or you doublle pump the clutch to try again and then it goes in but first time fast grrrrr and kicks it right the hell out before it engages as you let the clutch out !

first they will pull apart your shift boot put new spring in there but thats not the problem , youl go home and need to return again with the same issue its standard proceedure to avoid tearing into the known issue

Yeah I was thinking that the synchros just finally went out or the flywheel is bad. I'll have the tranny pulled and open it up and find out. You described it perfectly.

Default yeh i know thats exactly how mine was !

quality control at the factory sucks ( no excuse for this type stuff ) coming from the factory with bad syncros and forks that's lame mine had 4 miles when I picked it up after being delivered to the dealer , how could that happen unless they use poor quality parts and put them together wrong ! good luck keep us posted
sucks dealing with the issue

My old 12' 2 door used to pop out of third. I thought it was just shitty shifting on my part. Good luck and I hope they fix it.

How many miles on your Jeep and when did it first start doing this?

my Jeep started doing it on the very first drive home from the dealership!

i called them within a few days because at first I thought it was something I was doing wrong.

they had me drop it off and they gave me a half way decent loaner for a day or two.

they said they thought it was fixed...on the drive home it popped out, I called them right away!

in the end they were really decent about it, they figured out what was wrong, but the part they needed was on back order for a few weeks, so they told me that they got permission from Jeep/Chrysler to swap out the transmission and put in a brand new one!

i was pretty happy...but my dealership has been extremely decent to work with and they don't freak out when they see all sorts of modifications...

But they haven't noticed yet that I totally replaced the axle/differential housing with a pair of Dynatrac d44 and d60.

not much left of the drivetrain after the transfer case except the factory brakes and some wheel mounts/bearings.

I will be replacing the brakes pretty soon because I've added so much weight that I'd feel better with better brakes!

Guys how much was it to get fixed?

I took my 08 in with 80k on for first gear popping out and they want $1400 for parts and labour.

I'm just gonna have to suffer for now!
