Powdercoating Bolts?
So I have Mickey Thompson classic lock rims. They were run for one winter and the bolts in the fake beadlock have that fun rust color on them. I was going to slowly replace them all with stainless versions just to make things easy but I cannot find a M8x1.00 10mm stainless hex anywhere. The rust is purely on the surface and soaking them in a rust remover they would look brand new (not to mention that would save some $$). I dont want to get them all pretty just to have them rust again if I drive through a rainstorm in the summer. Is there a way to coat them easily with something hard enough that putting a socket on them wont scratch them all up?
You want to get new bolts and get them coated in something like zinc phosphate or cadmium. Powder coat wont work. If you do use stainless steel, make sure to use a lot of anti seize. Well, same goes for any new bolt.
Powder coat will definitely be a problem as the wrench will mar the coating... I know... my powder coater coated mine for whatever reason. I put a rubber glove over each when installing with a socket and half of them lost some of the coating.
Thanks all! Looks good scratchkenny. Did you have them coated with the 'fake' bolts in and the mounting bolts separate? Any other pics of em? I was wondering how they would look if I had the bolts match the ring color.
