Default Pro-Comp Alloy "Cast Blast" finish issues????

Well like the title says, I have Pro-Comp 7089 series wheels in the flat "Cast Blast" finish. Less than six months old and 2500 miles. Two weeks ago I noticed that the finish on my spare wheel was cracked and starting to flake off, look like they just spray pianted the wheel. So I called Pro-Comp and inquired about warranty, they said no problem 2 year warranty on finishes. I was told to contact the place of purchase, which I did and I had no problems exchanging the wheel for a new one, although the dealer said the warranty was only 1 year not 2? Well no 2 weeks later I have noticed that the other 4 wheels have some type of chip in the finish and are also starting to flake on off on some.

I did a quick search for "Cast Blast" which on Pro-Comp's site has the term being TM'ed. Well the only thing I could find on "Cast Blast" was a spray paint that is used to piant engine blocks and valve covers.

Might be great for high temp applications but for wheels I don't think so. I will be contacting the dealer tommorrow to see what can be done about getting a credit on the wheels, at this point I don't want anything to do with the ProComp finish.

Have anyone out there had a similair issue with a flat black finish, Pro Comp or others?

Cheers

That's strange..I put 30K miles on my flat black 7089s (to include wheeling trips) and never had a single issue with the finish...and neither does the girl who is still running the same ones on her jeep. Wonder if its a quality issue with the new runs of production from Japan? I know most procomp wheels were on backorder for a while from the tsunami...

Default Now I am nervous!!

I was just about to pull the trigger on 5 Pro Comp Series 7069's in the flat black finish, and after reading this thread I am a little hesitant.

I have done a ton of research on the Pro Comps and have not seen any bad reports until now.

I am thinking (and hoping) that you got a bad batch or something. I do know about the Tsunami damaging the plant where they are manufactured and many Pro Comps are back ordered for 2 or 3 months.

Are they rushing and skimping on the finishing process to meet the demand and back orders I wonder?

I am going to be keeping a close eye on this thread and see if there are others experiencing this problem before I order.

Default Dealer Update

Went to the dealer today, they took some pics and I am awaiting a call to find out if the distributor is going to honor the wannanty and what my options are. Looks like at best they are just going to do is exchange the bad wheels with new ones, not my first choice if i keep having issues with the finish. I would rather get a credit back from Pro Comp and get a new set of wheels.

Will update as soon as I get an answer from the dealer.

Cheers

Default Still Waiting

Well still waiting for an answer from the dealer as to weather or not the warranty will be honored, and I will get some new wheels. I also sent an e-mail to Pro Comp via the web site to inquire about warranty claims, have not gotten response yet, over 24hrs.

Default Wait is over

Well the wait is over, I was called today and advised that a full credit was issued from Pro Comp for the wheels. I ordered a set of KMC XD Bully's and will have them installed on Monday.

XD's are good wheels. I have the Monsters with 35" Toyo Open Country MTs that I am mounting tomorrow after I install my lift.

I believe it's 2 years for aluminum and 1 year for steel wheels. I have the 7069 in flat black for a year now and haven't noticed any issues. But I will have to take a closer look tomorrow.
