Default Procal and auto shifting question.

I upgraded from the stock Sahara Duelers to Duratrac 33x12.5/15" and 2 inch lift. Love the look and feel of the new set up but when I am cruising at 70mph the Jeep is constantly switching to a lower gear(on a slight incline) and the rpm is either at about 1900(cruising) or 3000 when revving. I have 3.73 gears.

Will a Procal help with this constant shifting or am I stuck with this expressway behavior? Also would a narrower tire have helped with this issue since there is less drag?

Thanks for your help.

yes, calibrating your speedo will help your shift points.

Thanks-Are the shift points based on the speedo reading or shift when the rpm's get to a certain point?

i'm pretty sure it's a little bit of both but regardless, calibrating your speedo will help address this problem.

I just did the same thing (put on 33's) I procal'ed my new tire size and shut off tpm's last night....but haven't tested it yet (wife at work and one kid is sick) I will report back later this week if the procal fixed the gear hunting (it was getting bad).
From what I have read all the procal does is input the new actual tire size (my 33's are actually 31.5") then the Jeep/tipm adjusts the speedo, which then adjusts the transmission shift points....so the procal only does the one thing while the jeep's electronics do the rest. (from my limited understanding of theses things, any super brains feel free to correct me)

edit...I'm looking at the box and instructions for the ProCal now, it's modes are....

- tire size mode
- Axle ratio mode
- one touch lane change mode
- tire pressure monitoring mode (TMPS mode)
- daytime running lamps mode
- automatic smartbar system mode (automatic swaybar disconnect for rubi's??)
- Throttle tolerance programming mode (when installing a new pcm or gas peddle- AEV hemi swaps?)
- New powertrain control module (PCM) setup mode (AEV hemi swaps?)
- clear diagnotic trouble codes mode
- extended idle mode
- steering wheel centering mode

I would be happy to hear how it works for you.

Used procal for exactly what the TS is referring to. I went from stock 32s to Nitto Trail Grapplers 34.5"s. I was noticing at around 70 I was pushing 3,000 RPMs. It was constantly struggling to find the right gear, downshifting and back.

Used procal, and I'm back to normal

Is a procal/any tuner/programmer beneficial for 6 speeds?

The Procal is a programmer. It will have no benefit other than the options it offers for the auto transmission. Any tuner will have a performance aspect that will boost performance. If you are looking for a performance boost, you should look into a superchips or bullydug, etc. The Procal will correct your speedo and basic adjustments but does not have any performance aspect that will benefit a 6 speed. Hope this helps.

My Jeep does the same thing and I'm using the Procal. I didn't notice a night and day difference before and after using my Procal. I suggest buying a tuner rather than a Procal. In fact, I've been considering selling my Procal and buying a tuner for this very reason.
