Default Procal or Flashpaq

I'm about to get some 33's and was thinking I'd need to recalibrate the speedo and such. I know the Procal is a common choice, but is there anything the Procal does that a Flashpaq doesn't? I'm thinking I'd rather get the Flashpaq since it can tune as well.

Flashpaq is super expensive. You may be confused between flashcal and procal which basically do the same things.

The flashcal can be upgraded to the flashpaq.

The flashcal can usually be found for less than the procal.

Hey,
I know what each of these are and their respective prices. If it's true that the SC flashCAL can be upgraded to the SC flashPAQ, how is it done, what does it cost and then why is there a SC Flashpaq in the first place?

Also, if you know... Why then do so many people get the AEV Procal instead of the SC FlashCAL? Especially when the FlashCAL seems so much more user friendly than the Procal.

My original question still stands...

The flashpaq was released years before the flashcal. My guess would be that they released the flashcal simply to compete with the procal, which was pretty much the go-to name for a cheap JK programmer.

The flashcal is the same basic design as the flashpaq, and is internet updatable, just like the flashpaq. So my guess would be that you would upgrade it to a flashpaq over the internet, same way you would do any other flashpaq or flashcal update.

Since you know the prices and info on them, I'll bet that you could also find the similarites and/or differences between them on those same websites.

One difference I found was that the procal does a better job of speedo calibration than the flashpaq.

It's easy to find different specs on these 3 items, but I'm really interested in the opinions of everyone using them. That's something that the manufacturers won't/can't tell you.

I'd be interested to see if anyone else has been able to update their Flashcal with the Flashpaq software.

Also, how far off was the speedo calibration with the Flashpaq for you nthinuf?

The procal matched the gps for me at freeway speeds. After many tries with different tire sizes, the flashpaq was never closer than 3-4 mph off at 70. More of an annoyance than a big deal, just something to be aware of. And others have posted that the flashpaq is accurate for them, so just call it a head-up to check the accuracy for yourself.

Gotcha, thanks for the input.

I also just read on another thread that the update for the Flashcal to gain tuning ability is going to cost in the ball park of $150.

I have the Superchips Flashcal. It has worked well for me to accommodate my 35's, turn off the TPMS and adjust horn beep and running lights. Superchips tech support is great.

I wanted to enable daytime running lights in a different mode than what was offered in the default firmware and I called them up about it. A week later they called me back and said they had a new firmware release for me to try. They actually created a couple of different firmware releases for me to try out. I now have NUMEROUS running light options (fog lights, turn signals, low beam headlights - half intensity, low beam headlights full intensity). Anyway, in this day and age it's rare to find a company so willing to go out of their way to give a customer what they want.

The Flashcal can be upgraded to a Flashpaq. The quote I got was ~$130 to upgrade my Flashcal to a Flashpaq. The difference is the Flashpaq allows for different engine power tunes. I haven't done that yet because I have a 2012 and haven't had my head replaced yet and don't want Chrysler to deny a claim because I have a custom engine tune.

To date we have 3 Jeeps and over the years have purchased Flashpaq's for each of them.

First- if your speedo is out, you set the Flashpaq wrong. There are NO tires the exact size, period. Every manufacturers tires will be different. The Flashpaq can be tweaked in to be perfect.

Watch for specials - I just pick one up for my daughters Jeep for $280. Sometimes you can find them as cheap as $260.

A programmed 3.8 makes a world of difference and driveability.

If all you want is to reset your speedo or gears and a few other minor things a ProCal is more affordable.
