Default Procomp rims

Hey Gang!

I see a lot of pics with Procomp black rims, are they any good? I’m asking because I’d like to buy some but want to make sure they won’t chip or bent just buy hitting a curb…

Those are what I want: 17" for my Sahara unlimited, so 5 bolts x 5.5... I want to put some BFGoodrich 285x70x17 tires on theme!

They are not bad and reasonably priced. They are quite popular on this forum.

If you go to the Show Off threads for the various size of tires you can see many combinations of those rims and various tires.

JUST by hitting a curb? yah, they might bend and/or chip. the changes of hitting a curb with big/wide tires are slim to none, though. my procomp wheels have under 10k on them, but so far not so much as a chip. my wife was involved in an almost head on collision with her sahara with black procomps and the wheel that was hit head on at about 50mph was chipped, but did not bend. she was running a 265 series tire at that time. she now has a 285 which protects the wheels alittle more. my 315s really stick out and protect the wheel.

I have the Procomp 7089s. Mine got pretty severe trail rash during this winching operation (image below). The rocks gouged metal out of the rim, leaving "deep" gashes. I'm not bothered by that--at least not as if it had happened on a curb in a mall parking lot. If you wheel and you want your Jeep to stay looking pristine, these may not be the right rims/finish for you. Consider steel rims that you can rattle can when they get scuffed up.

I rattle can my procomps often. Satin black matches perfect. Also, I don't think aluminum rims bend, they crack or break.

My Procomps have held up pretty well considering I've wheeled them on tough terrain. As with Mark D., I do have numerous gouges and scratches along the rim lip from rocks/tree roots. I don't care, it comes with the territory...gives my JK more character. Hitting curbs...you won't have a problem with the size your getting. Also, as aldaman says: 5 X 5 bolt pattern.

In my case, it actually gouged out metal as if you'd taken a knife to butter, leaving a gash behind.

Yeah, mine have gouges too. I actually have the 7189, but they got so chewed up, that I painted the whole wheel black. That way I can touch up the rock rash as needed.

As for the bend vs break... I don't have first hand experience. I read it in one of the 4WD magazines.
