Thumbs up Programmer or Cold Air Intake?

Hi Everyone,

New to the forum and to the Jeep world and loving it! Have a 2008 JK 4 door with a 4 1/2 lift, 35's" and just installed a Magnaflow catback but need more power! I realize these vehicles are not built for speed but my next step is either a programmer or cold air intake and looking to you experts for some advice on what has worked for you. So, if I can only get one...which would provide the best results? Any input would be appreciated. Looking forward to a run soon!

Dave

Welcome to the forum! My suggestion would be programmer. Cold air intake seems like a great way to pull water into the engine. :(

another vote programmer. I am thinking of removing my CAI and getting a snorkel with some of the water crossings I do.

I am curious about the programmer too. Like people always say these vehicles are not sports cars or commuter cars, but I am looking power with the same or improved MPG on regular grade fuel. Anyone have any suggestions? Any data? I have searched and not gotten anything conclusive

If you have an automatic, regear to 5.38s if you have a Rubi or 5.13s if you don't.

If you have a 6 speed, regear to 5.13s if there is ever a chance you will upgrade to 37s or if you pull a trailer. Otherwise, regear to 4.88s.

x3.

But between the CAI and the programmer, it's hands down the PROGRAMMER even if you don't mind the noise generated by the CAI.

But gears are definitely #1!

Default programmer vs. CAI

Thanks all for the input! Forgot to mention its an automatic and hasn't been re-geared but was told the programmer would help take care of that too, "wire to wire." Was i mislead? Thanks!
