Default Protect Valve Stems

When wheeling this weekend I shaved off a valve stem by kissing a rock during a section of trail. Of course it was impossible to change it where it happened and very difficult to change the tire even when i backed out. I had to backup about 75 feet, stacking rocks the whole way, before I was able to find ground solid and level enough to change the tire.

I never want to encounter this problem again. Are there wheels other than the AEV pintler that protect the valve stems well? Is there a bolt on ring, or some other method for protecting the stems? I want to move to a 15x10 steel wheel and 38inch tires soon, but after this experience I am thinking anything with rock guards or beadlocks is going to be the way to go. the only I know of come in 16+ sizes.

Your help is appreciated.

Sorry no pictures of the area of the trail where the incident occoured. Rocks on both sides, heavy ruts, steep walls. Lots of dragging, scraping . When it happened I knew right away what it was. Suprised it wasnt the sidewall. I am amazed how stout the factory wheel is. It took some massive abuse getting to the spot where I could work on it. Only has some rock rash, didnt even cut up the tire. Remounted fine.

there are different wheels that have rock rings if you dont want beadlocks. also trings in differing sizes. these are procomp the ring is about 3in, so a rubber stem is a must to be able to air up and down.

Ill be moving to a dif tire soon so im not stuck on using factory wheels. Ill have the tire place put in plastic stems for sure. thanks for the advice on those wheels. I think they are exactly what the Dr ordered.

This was the first time the wife had ever been out to the park. She has only been on some mild trails when we go camping. After our experience with the flat, she is that much more excited and ready to upgrade. She was awesome too, out there stacking rocks in the 100deg heat. By the end of the day she was turning into a great spotter. Now I gotta get her to drive!

Lessons Learned;

Never leave without your high lift, the factory jack blows
Pack more water than you can sanely drink
Get onboard Air for air tools ASAP!
Stop screwing around, buy the lift and tires allready!
Diff Sliders, need them
Rock Rings, need them
