Protecting tow bar base plate tabs
I use my 2010 JK Rubicon on some serious trails even though it is not highly modified. I installed a DEMCO base plate under an ARB winch bumper and flat tow the JK behind a motorhome. The tow bar tabs stick out a bit and could be folded shut or bent at an angle if I hit a rock just right. To protect the tabs, I asked Mike at Custom 4X4 Fabrication in OKC, OK if he could make a quickly removable skid plate for the tabs. He came up with a simple design using 3/4 inch steel bar that installs using the tow bar pins. Here is a picture of the prototype before I had them painted. I may use short graded bolts because the hitch pins would be a pain to get out if they get bent.
