Default Pure Jeep tire carrier problems

Has anyone else had trouble with the locking mechanism on the tire carrier? I had mine get stuck closed a few weeks back, it took 4 of us 1.5hrs to get it open. Jeremiah sent me out a new mechanism and I installed it thursday. It was fine until saturday night it got stuck again I HAD to get it open I had to drive 600mi and everything to change a flat is in back of jeep. Its EXTREMELY frustrating. This time I had to cut the derlin pin to get it open. I've had the bumper since june of last year, the original lock never worked right, never locked tight. I will be looking to get something else on it to lock it closed.

here is video of me closing the bumper after installing the new mechanism thursday.

hmm i've never had my stick shut, but im not very happy with the latching mechanism either. First im sure you figured out lock tight is a must yourself otherwise it wiggles all the screws loose and strips them. Also the latch rattles pretty bad. Good luck with unlocking it I hope mine doesnt do that anytime soon. Anyone else having problems with their latches rattling or sticking??

I dont need luck to unlock it, I cut the pin off the bumper with sawzall, its open and tied off with ratchet straps again. The original latch rattled bad, never closed tight till the first day it got stuck about 3wks ago, that day it suddenly locked tight and had no wiggle, it opened and closed about 4times that day tight until it got stuck closed and we had to pry the latch apart to get it open. This time on saturday, we tried prying it with pry bar, hitting latch with sledge hammer, nothing would pop it open.

Tim,
I am sorry you are having a hard time, when we sent out replacement parts I asked that you make sure and center the pin in the latch. In your second picture you can see that the pin isn't centered properly. I would be more than happy to send you another latch pin, but the pin needs to be centered on the latch, or it puts extra stress on the system and makes it hard to work. Alignment and installation is key to having a perfectly working system. Feel free to PM me or give me a call and we will work through this with you.

Jeremiah I appreciate your help, I dont recall you saying about the pin being centered, but I know you did talk about it having to be aligned. I read the directions again and I see no where that says anything about adjustments other then the bumper side to side. The latch definitely cannot be adjusted as it has 4 screws, I'm guessing the pin can be adjusted? I will give you a call. I did email you the pics and video last thursday and didnt hear back so I thought it was all good.

Thanks again
Tim

I've had problems with mine as well. Out of the box the pin and locking mechanism never lined up. I had to put washers under the locking mechanism as well as the delrin rad on the swing gate. If there's a way to move the pin up I'd be interested as well, because mine is definitely not centered. Maybe the rep can suggest a way to move the pin up.

I bought one of these and will be getting a piece of metal welded on the bumper to latch it to.

stuck with it locked twice is twice to many times for me, I got lucky the 2nd time that I was able to get to a sawzall. I'm not going to chance it again, next time I'll get a flat and not be able to change my tire.

Thanks anyway Jeremiah
