Default PureJeep rear decision

Im getting ready to order a purejeep rear bumper my only question is: If I dont plan on going bigger than 35 inches on my tires is there any reason to pay 300 more for the tire carrier? Thanks for your help

I would get it if you plan on bigger than 33" tires. 35s would probably weaken the tailgate/hinges over time. I know it would on a TJ and a JK has to be worse since the gate is wider and puts more force on the hinges. You could also get a different style carrier at a later time like the ones that OR-Fab makes and keep your PJ bumper. that is another option.

Ive had 35's for almost a year but only recently put a spare on. I went with 16 inch wheels and would think that would save a little weight considering i had 18s before.

Over time that 35 will wear out your stock gate hardware, not to mention rattle like crazy if you drive at all on washboard roads. $300 is cheap compared to the price you will pay to get it fixed. I would buy the tire carrier as well!

Is a 35 inch tire mounted on a 16 inch rim that much heavier than the 18inch sahara wheels and tires?

Yes it is. The lightest 35 and wheel will be a lot heavier. This is not the lightest, but for example the Toyo 35" tire alone weighs 83 pounds. Add in a rim and you are well over 100 pounds....

My 35" Mud Grappler and PSC 18" wheel weighs somewhere around 125-130lbs and considering my stock Rubicon wheel/tire only weighed like 85lbs, that's a lot of extra weight for something that wasn't designed for it.

I just got the Rock Hard rear bumper with tire carrier and am very impressed with it.

It carries a 37" tire easily.

Check it out,...
