Default Quality of Superior Ring & Pinion

Hi All,

I had modified my JK's Gear Ratio to 4.88 Superior Ring & Pinion.

Had anyone have trouble with those?

how long does it last?

Actually the dealer's mechanic got me thinking about the quality of those, great to get some feedbacks from you guys.

Thanks

For the most part, they are made the same. Failures, USUALLY, are installation error.

I don't have Superior 4.88's but I do have their 5.13's. I've heard of no problems with them. I will tell you that I brake a front AlloyUSA CM axle and a rear Superior CM axle and in both cases the Superior gears were fine. The pinion on the 4.88's should be stouter than that on the 5.13.

I doubt the factory gears are any better. And I'd question the mechanics observation, motivation and knowledge. This is based upon my experience with dealership mechanics. I once worked at a Chevy dealeship. There was only one mechanic there that I would trust to work on my own vehicles. I was not alone in having that opinion.

I have the superior 5.13s also. I never have to think about them, so they must be good. I drive 80mph+ often, and climb my jeep slow up gnarky rocks every chance I get. No failures yet.
