Default question about axles

Hello i currently have a 2007 with d30/d44 3.21 gear set. I found a set of d30/d44 with 4.10 gears. i plan on just swapping them out ,but the guy says that he thinks the front axle housing is bent. My housing is perfect can i just swap the internals into my housing or when i go to remove the carrier will i need a install kit and such. kind of a newbie question. i though you can just remove the axles pull the carrier and swap over. Any thoughts would be helpful

You will have to have them set up again! I do not think you need a master install, but is advised! Since you will have to have gears set up, I would install a trutrac up front!

i have a set of d30/44 4.10 ring and pinion with the bigger carrier i was trying to find a less expensive way to have 4.10 because I'm going to have to buy the install kit and new spider gears since I'm there any way. but if i have to set the gears again any way thats not really a good option for me then

Is it a matter of just being able to assemble everything the same way I took it out or will I have to readjust the shims

It's the same as a new gear install. Given that you're asking the question, you are not going to be able to do it. Most shops won't install used gears. Assuming you can find one that will, you're looking at $500-$750 for labor and an install kit. You'd be foolish to not get an install kit going into a new housing.

That price is for one axle, not two. For two, you're probably around $1000. But I'd never install used gears unless I could install myself as no shop will warranty the work. So, if on your way home from dropping $1000 the gears blow up, it's tough luck.

Why not check the axles to be sure they are bent? Completely swapping axles is labor intensive but doable without any special skills. Just a thought

The front axle tube is bent. The guy is saying that you can just swap the whole pumpkin over

You can swap it, but you want to buy an install kit and it has to be set up again just the same as if you got new gears. You can reuse all the bearings, etc., but that is never recommended and most people buy the install kit.

You can probably find a lightly used D30 for less though and then you don't have to pay any labor and then just swap it yourself. Can be done in a few hours.

What's your location? I sold my front 30 but the local 4x4 shop has my 44 rear with 4:10 for sale in illinois
