My last JK I had a 3" BDS lift, which actually gave me only about 3" of total lift. I am looking at getting the Teraflex 3" lift for my current JK. I know this lift is more than 3" when installed, and based on what I have seen on here for height, it seems as though new driveshafts would be in order, especially with a 2dr and an auto. So, here's my dilema...

My JK is my daily driver putting about 50 miles a day on it during the week. Living in Corpus Christi and lack of free time currently, I won't see much off road until after next summer most likely. So, in the opinions of you fellow JK'ers, do you think my driveshafts will hold up with pavement driving...flat highway with 70mph speed limits (and occasional sand driving) for 6-8 months or should I wait to install the lift when I can also do the driveshafts? Are driveshaft issues very frequent with on road use only? Thanks.

 

tthey will probley hold up, but you never know

 

I know anything can happen. My main concern actually is the highway speeds. I guess I can slow down. Not that big of a deal to me...I'll just leave a little sooner.

 

as long as you get adjustble control arms, and get the rear pinion set correctly, they should hold up..


Mine failed after 6,000 miles and one offroad trip in my old JK, even with adjustable control arms. On the flip side, Usgone on here has the same lift as I did. He's wheeled the hell out of his and still has the stock shafts,

 

I guess it's a crap shoot . If I get this lift, I will get the full lift with the 8 adj arms. I probably should just wait and do it all at once, but you know how it goes...when I get the lift delivered, I will get ancy and not want to wait to get it on....

If it were to go out it shouldnt be hard to find a cheap change out

 

Members on here are always getting rid of their stockers, alot change out their dshafts when they lift. Can pick em up pretty cheap, good to have as spares till you can get double cardens. Also, check some 4wd shops that lift alot of jk's, sometimes people just leave theirs.

 

An insurance policy like that is nice to have when it is your dd.

At the very least secure an extra set of shafts on the cheap.

You don't want to learn the lesson the hard way ... I hope.

 

I really think it's all across the board as to whether the ds will hold up or not. I've been wheeling a bunch of times, and driven on road with my lift/tires for roughly 6000 miles, with a 4" Superlift and no issues. I also have a 6 speed, tho. And adjustable arms. I even had to shorten a couple of the TF arms a bit to get everything set right

I would say you will be ok, but in all honesty, who knows?
