Question about RIPP SC with intercooler installation
a local shop can order the kit for me and install it, but there quoting 900 for the install. the site says it will take about 5 hours to install. Is that assuming you have a shop to work out of, or is that assuming your in your driveway. also, i have a pretty complete set of tools, but are there any special tools i need? im about to say screw it and let the shop do it, they have a nice warranty on labor. that combined with RIPPS warrenty on hard parts will make me sleep easier after mashing the pedal evvvery day.
** EDIT: "the site says it will take 5 hours to install"... im referring to RIPP's site, not the installers site.

That seems a little high to me. What is the labor rate at this shop? For them to say its going to be $900 install...that like $180/hour. Thats nuts. Most shops around here are about $120 an hour for a really good one...even the Porsche Tuning shop is $135 and hour
Coming from the guys that make and install this, im gonna listen to you more than a shop quoting me for a job, but 180/hr is quite a bit if it really will only take them exactly 5 hours. unless they got 2 people working on it... then its 90/hr. another local shop charges 75 bucks an hour for work, but i there not as jeep-fluent as these guys that im going with. thanks for the reply by the way. and im taking a really long look at your badass headers. did you guys ever make a decision on having a supercharger/header package?
$900 is expensive, but it will likely take them longer than 5 hours if they haven't done it before. It took me about 8 in my garage. I could do it again in 6.
The only specialized tool you need is a gear puller to help pop off the water pump pulley. Everything else is basic stuff such as metric sockets, extensions, tube cutter and a spark plug removal tool. You also need a computer to update the Diablo programmer.
The RIPP instructions are very clear and easy to follow. If you have the time, do it yourself. It is a very rewarding experience. It's nice to know what is where in case you have issues or need to remove the system for warranty work.

I do have one thing to add to the instructions and I let cbloyer know this as well. Install the housing for the filter first before you mount the blower!! Ripp did not say this in their install instructions. If you dont you will be pulling the blower back off.
Yep X2!! Its not a difficult install and like cbloyer said, we would be more than happy to help you along the way. Save your money and use it on more upgrades.

we said put it on after because its too easy to break the fan switch right in front of the air inlet tube. You sorta tend to lean towards resting it on there when your about to hang the blower/bracket...We've been revisiting the instructions based on notes from resent installs - most question really only revolve around the diablo... the hardware is very straight forward.

I can't believe I'm going to admit this... but here we go. It took me a full 10 hours. Now, I probably wasn't turning a bolt every second. I may have been grabbing lunch or opening boxes and organizing parts (I tore it apart in the morning and the UPS guy came mid-day) etc.
That being said, it's a very straight forward job and people like me can help you if you have any problems. If you mechanical experience and a good mechanical aptitude I think you can do this. Now, that being said you will have to be meticulous and follow the directions very carefully.
And PLEASE, don't forget to tape your holes on your injectors and intake manifold. Even if they are only open for a second, if you drop something in there you're in for a long day...if you notice. If you don't notice it, prepare to pull your heads and replace pistons.
With all of that in mind I think you can make an informed decision.
And RIPP, would you guys consider putting some of those special zip-ties that hold the wires to the fuel rail? The ones with the nipple.. That would be super sweet!

Which wire ties?
