Default Question about sway bar links...

The other day I went through a ditch, while it was very small but a little deep the tires dropped one at a time. Anyways I heard a metal on metal scratching sound. So I jump out and check.. My rear sway bar link is hitting my upper control arm mount. Measured the front links at 11" and the rears at 10". This is center of the bolt on on top to center At bottom.. Is it normal for this to hAppen if not disconnected? Also, I have a 4" lift. Are those lengths correct? I can try and upload some pics tomorrow if Anyone is interested.

No, they should not be hitting. Are they installed on the outside or inside? The pic may help.

You want the swaybars to be level, or angled up slightly. Not angled down. Whatever length that comes out to is what you want.

The pics describe it better than I can but not level or angled up at all. Also one if the pics shows where it bent the mount for the upper control arm.

Would this make ride quality suffer or mainly just when off road?

ACTUALLY, a 0 to 6 degree down pitch for the rear sway bar link is acceptable (3 degree down).

I dunno what that amounts to as far as where it is now. But apparently something isn't correct. My question is.

If its hitting do I have a problem? If so would a longer link help? Also, about about 4" to make it parallel to the frame

WAY too short. When you flex with short links, the swaybar has a bad habit of flipping around backward, which causes some great pics to be posted. (in your case, this won't be an issue since the swaybar can't flip around... ) You should probably remove those links and get longer/adjustable/disconnects.

In you second picture, the link is positioned on the outside of the swaybar. See if swapping it to the inside will help avoid hitting the mount.

Also, are your axles centered? Since you are still running stock links on a 4" lift, I am thinking you may still be running the stock trackbars as well and the axle is shifted over enough to line up the link with the mount.

Look at that 3rd pic again. I think you can answer this question yourself...

I know JKS recommends +/- 5 degrees, but enough pics of the resulting carnage from short links have been posted that I would opt for a positive angle.

Those are stock links?! Haha holy hell. I think the trackbar may be factory but I have a track bar relocation kit

Are you running the RC kit in your profile? if so I am not surprised at your problems. I get flamed everytime I bash that kit, but for $500 and 4 inches of lift plus shocks... you are asking for trouble.

The kit doesn't have any bump stops and uses the RC shocks to limit your up travel. Since you switched out your shocks you really need to get some front and rear bump stops to limit uptravel so you don't over compress your shocks.

The kit should have come with rear links... Whoever installed that kit likely put the links with the kit on the front and called it a day... he was supposed to move the OEM rear links to the front and then put the links from the kit in the rear. I would swap your sway links and see if that levels out your sway bars.

Running JKS links front and rear. I'll stay with their recommendation for their products. Sorry about the carnage.

Just looked at the specs for both, I hadn't realized that they suggest a different range for front vs rear. Good call.
