Default Question about Toe-In and alignment on lifted Jeeps with 35"s.

Well I'm headed back to Firestone to have them re-align my Jeep. I took it to them last week because I had exhausted all of my options in trying to get rid of my death wobble and an alignment was the only thing I hadn't tried yet.

Needless to say, the death wobble was 3 times as worse after the alignment, so this time I'm going to have them do it to my specs.

Per WOL's alignment write-up I'm going to request that they set my caster to +7 degrees.

I also want them to set my wheels toe-in to 1/8" closer on the front of the wheel than the back, but I'm not sure how to translate this into degrees as Firestone uses.

So my questions are:
  1. How can I translate 1/8" shorter distance in the front to a degree measurement.
  2. And two, are there anything besides caster and toe-in that should be altered out of factory specs for a Jeep with 4" of lift and 35"s?

did you make sure to pull your skyjacker front track bar relocation bracket? i would strongly recommend that you do before doing anything else. even at that, enough damage could have been done to your trackbar bushings, mount and/or the mounting hole that some repair may be needed. if in fact all looks good, make sure that the bolts are tightend to 125 ft. lbs. of torque. +6-7° of caster should help but if something else is off, you'll still get DW. as far as your toe goes, you just want the front of your front tires to be pointing inward about 1/16"-1/8" from the backs of your front tires. you can determine this yourself with a tape measure.

Thanks for the reply WOL.

I ditched the Skyjacker adapter bracket and factory track bar for a JKS adjustable track bar per your advice weeks ago.

When I was installing it the mounting holes looked fine, and naturally the JKS trackbar had brand new bushing.

I tried adjusting my toe by myself today, but I could not get the adjuster to turn (with any of the tools I have at least).

The toe in angle would be nice to know though Just so that we are all speaking the same language as the alignment guys

I bet you that when you tell them(alignment guys) to increase the toe in they put up some resistance, right? Atleast that was my experience I think if you give them a angle to work with they might be less reluctant.

This may be a shot in the dark, as I haven't read the previous thread.

How's your steering stabilizer looking?

I've experienced death wobble in a stock one ton when the steering stabilizer had given up the ghost.

That's what I'm afraid of. If I could find out the proper measurement in degrees they would give me less of a hard time.

Brand spankin new.

In fact I have the following:
  1. Three week old Skyjacker HD Steering Stabilizer
  2. Two week old JKS Adjustable Trackbar
  3. Two week old, tire rotation and balance

And I still have DW.

Okay...then I was probably wrong. Not the first time, unlikely to be the last

That sucks for you.......... Track bar tight? I mean really tight? Wheels balanced? Those were my culprits.

BEWARE 7 degres of castor man. The working angles on the drive shaft get too tight, then it will destroy itself, or you will get driveline vibes at 55 or less!

Good luck

1/8" with 35" (34.6") = 0.104° each side
