Default question for herculined interior

well i love my herculined interior, but after a year it just looks like total crap.
can i put another thin coat over the old to make it look better? or even a thin coat of rattle can paint maybe the duplicolor? what can i do, it is faded bad from the florida sun and just looks like its been on there for years.
any suggestions, ideas, thoughts are welcome

I still have a couple of months before I can hose mine out and see how bad it looks after winter abuse so not too much help. Only thing I can is if you have to lay a fresh coat on top this year, next year the same, in 5 years you'll end up with 2 inches of herculiner in the tub Maybe the rattle can stuff would be a best first shot but in a small area in the back to see how it'll match up

this is exactly why i decided to go with lineX. sure, it costs more up front, but you get a guaranteed product that will look good for quite some time. my buddy herculined the bed of his 350 and like you said, after a year it looked like absolute garbage. i haven't seen how the duplicolor spray product looks or lasts, but i think i'll pass on the DIY bedlining

well, herculiner has withstood hits and scrapes, etc.. very well, the color just looks horrible.

as far as looking bad in another year if i recoat, it was my understanding, there was some type of uv protectant that came out to prevevnt this, but it was too late for mine.

sorry no pics, my camera is busted.

i might just try to a good rattle can to brighten it up

I heard there was some kinda uv protectant but it wasn't on the shelf when I bought my kit either. Keep us posted on the rattle can outcome.

Default didnt work

i tried a small area of the duplicolor, when it dried it actually came out chalky grey instead of black.

i guess a chemical reaction between duplicolor and herculiner is what caused it

so i think once weather gets better, ill just recoat entire inside with the herculiner. i found some thin spots from the orriginal coating so this will give me a chance to fill those in.
if i remember correctly on the can, it stated to coat after dry, u have to do a light sanding then can apply another coat.

this time i will buy the uv protectant and apply it also. anyone know what it is and where i can order it, i know we dont have the uv stuff in out local stores

Default Update

talked to a herculiner customer service rep, he told me it is not a problem to apply coats over the old even after a year.

the only thing he recomended was to do an acetone or xylene wash before applying new coats to make sure it is very clean. no sanding or ruff up needed. then apply the new coat of herculiner, then apply then uv top coat. he says the uv top coat was made to address this fading issue and should last me years when done correctly.

it was kind of funny, he agreed with me on the fading issue but unfortunately when i did mine, there was no uv top coat. so maybe it has been more than a year since i herculined.

anyways, thanks for the replies guys and once weather becomes nicer, looks like im recoating and uv top coat this time around. i will do before and after pics for everyone, i should have a new camera soon. now it might be a few weeks when i can get the couple days to do this, as i will take seats and everything out again. so bare with me if u are interested in this.
