Question on inside liner for the Hardtop
 

I saw on Besttop aftermarket hard top for the JK's they have a liner inside which I thought was a good idea.
With temperatures getting into the 90's the heat that comes off the top feels like the top of my head is on fire :hot: . I was wondering if anyone has done it are is thinking of doing it with the factory top inside.
If it was possible to find something with a flexible paper type heat shield kind of like the same stuff Jeep uses to shield the heat under the carpet on the floors would be good.

You're right about the heat. When stationary, I can't
hold my hand against the inside of the top. It's been
about 90 here in Tampa. It's not so bad when you're
moving. I've looked into the 3M thinsulate material.
Commercially available liners using this material cost
$200.

A reflective coating would be best. Lowe's has
some rolled reflective insulation called Reflectix that
should work but it's silver on both sides. I've also
thought about cutting up a foam sleeping bag pad that
I saw at Sport's Authority.

Any other ideas?

That is my question. Why are you running with it on?

Don't tell my you have the A/C running on such a nice sunny day. If my bald head can take it, your head can take the sunshine too. It is good for you (literally, Vit D is very immunomodulatory, just don't get skin cancer).

I lived in Texas with convertibles. In the summer you can't run with the top down even if you are moving. Your head just gets baked. You find yourself searching for any shade possible.

I would be a little Leary of installing a liner. I don't know what the reaction to the fiberglass top would be. It may get too hot and discolor or crack. I have heard a couple of people here on this forum have done it. If they could pipe in with their experience.......

There are a few on here who have done such a thing. Do a search.

If I had it my way the top would be off in a heart beat but.......... I live on the Rubicon trail, nothing but four miles of gravel; dirt mountain roads to the very top.(Which I have to travel four to six times a day to get the kids at the bottom or grocery's). The main reason I got the hard top was because on my old TJ I kept having to replace the soft top because once the gravel fines get into the zippers it is history plus one trip up here on a dry day the Jeep and myself would be covered in dust and that was with everything closed. It would just find the cracks and blow in. I kind of look like a raccoon in the face once I took off my sunglasses. :LOL:

I can relate to the bald head part! I had the front panels of my hard top off a few weeks ago and forgot my cap. Baked my skull! I take the panels off every chance I get. Haven't used the A/C yet.

I did do a search and found mslc10 did it to his Jeep Hardtop. He said he used a sound paddien then carpet over that. He did not mention where he brought his supplies from plus he said it was not a easy project. I wonder if maybe a Auto place that dose headliners could do it without charging a arm and leg.
