question on muffler heat shield

The cat converter on the other side of the transmission tunnel from your foot is substantially hotter than the muffler. Has the carpet under your right foot ignited yet?

least i thought i saw that . but really havent checked that out for any particular reason ( i know that area can be hot on most vehicles though)

This just happened to my 2010 JKU. Was driving home and heard the sound of dragging aluminum turkey pans under the jeep.

The heat shield over the muffler had corroded around all four nuts and was just flopping around on the muffler. Nuts looked rusted but they came off no problem with an 11mm. It was a little tough to reach the ones in the back.

I added some 1-1/4" diameter fender washers. Cleaned everything up, and put it all back together.
