Default Question regarding MPG with OD off

Here is my question, if I am driving in town with OD off (which would result in less downshifting and maintains the jeep in the sweet spot of 2300-2600ish. Would this result in better gas milage?

chances that it will help around town are slim. try it and test it out for yourself?

o/d off helps on the freeway though...

i guess it all depends on your driving habits, demographics, and jeep set-up.

So you have bigger tires and stock gears, and your OD On rpm's are down well under 2k, right? That means the engine is constantly lugging and popping in and out of OD, right? OD Off will put you up in the OD On range if you had re-geared, right? Less downshifts and lugging and gear hunting, more hp to actually hold your speeds, etc.

Just a guess, but you can answer your own question, right?

It has been my experience O/D off around town yields the best mileage. That also includes 45 mph hilly secondary roads. That is what keeps the torque converter locked the most amount of time.
On the highway, I leave the O/D on, but I don't hesitate to hit the button if I feel it is taking too long to downshift going up an incline.

So to sum up, in town OD off should give me better gas milage right?

I tried it for a full tank through once and I got less MPG. I am thinking unless your doing 35 or under most of the time, it's best to just leave it on.

Guys, he has 35's with stock gears. With OD On, his rpm's are really low and he is constantly lugging the engine. Until he re-gears, he should be permanent OD Off...
