You cant borrow one, they covered themselves. You can only use one that hasnt been used, unless the person you get it from, turn their settings back to stock.

Sorry for the bad news, but they are one-time use things... once you program a jeep with them, they are tied to that jeep until you use it to return the jeep back to stock.

I heard the first ones out didn't do that and were able to be re-used.

I got one in the first batch shipped to northridge4x4.com. I just updated it for the 4th time and it gets better every update. Very reliable and it works really well, love my acceleration and recalibrated speedo.

When I go to update the Hypertech, do I need to return to stock first, or simply hook it back up and load the updated programming?

I was troubleshooting an engine light on my Jeep so removed the Hypertech firmware, took it for a drive, then reinstalled the Hypertech firmware and took it for another drive. To be quite honest, after running it for quite a few months now, I think that it's safe to admit that if I were to be given a blind test to determine whether the Hypertech firmware were installed in my JK or not, I couldn't do it. Whatever difference exists is quite subtle. Having the tires sized correctly is worth it, however. Here's my advice: If you can afford the Hypertech, what the heck, spend the money and get it. If spending the money is beyond your means or bothers your sense of thriftiness, get the Accupro and don't even look back--you'll be quite happy with it.

BTW: I've never run mine on Premium. With gas prices coming down, I just might try that.

Good question. With all these talks of improvement I think I'm going to reprogram mine again.

You really can't borrow one and get the download added to yours and theirs. The original vehicle would have to return to stock in order to load again. It is designed for just one vehicle to have the program downloaded. If you found someone that wanted to take the program out of their vehicle I suppose you could "borrow" it.

Funny, I just set mine back to regular as although I do get better gas mileage and performance with 93/4 octane. It was 20¢ a gallon more at $4.00 a gallon and 20¢ more at less than $2.00 a gallon. The price difference was paying for itself at higher fuel costs but that is no longer the case with reduced fuel prices.

As for the performance increases they are very negligible with the Hypertech and my 6 speed. Every intake and exhaust upgrade I did, netted better results. I wouldn't say not to do it because it certainly has other benefits, especially for those with automatic transmissions, but the price is very dear as compared to the programmers for other vehicles. Unfortunately, Hypertech doesn't have much competition currently and certainly they offer the most fully featured programmer for the JK.

The day Superchips comes out with a programmer for the JK I know where you can get a Hypertech really cheap.
