Default Question on winch

Getting a self recovery winch and looking at 9000# Engo, Q-tech, and Barricade. The barricade weighs 60# and the Q-tech weighs 98#. They both appear to be the same (barricade actually pulls 9500#) so what would cause the extra weight?

synthetic rope weighs considerably less than a steel cable.

Yep, steel vs synthetic, as well as cable thickness and cable length. You should be able to find the differences on each website.

Engo E9000 - 92' steel cable - 85 lbs
Engo E9000S - 85' synthetic - 60 lbs

Didn't see Qtech weights listed, but:
Q9000 - 100' steel
Q9000S - 90' synthetic

I saw 58 lbs for the Barricade with steel cable, and no weight for the one with synthetic. My guess is that the weight for the one with steel is actually for the synth, and the one with steel is more in line with the products from the other mfg's...

That makes sense. I assumed the specs on the steel cable winches were accurate which is why i couldn't understand the 30# difference. With that being said; how much sag will i get by adding 100# or so to the front bumper? Which winch would you all recommend?

Well if you know someone or something that weighs 100 lbs put it on your bumper and measure the difference. I needed to add 3/4" spacer up front when I added a JCR Crusader bumper and 10K ENGO with synthetic.

If you are staying with the stock bumper, I would guess you will lose about an inch. Maybe a little more depending on the weight of the winch plate.

Happy Jeeping.

If you are just adding a winch with synthetic you likely won't notice much. If you go with wire and a heavier bumper you will likely notice it a lot more. It's easily corrected with a coil spacer though. Just a winch sagging an inch? Must be one heavy ass winch.
