Default Questions about backspacing

I was looking at getting some different rims and I found some with as little as 1" of backspacing. Is that too little or should I go with a rim that has more?

Check the FAQ's at the top of this modified area.

Stock rims have a 6.25 BS. Generally, a 4.50 or so would be a good starting point, depending on what size tire you are moving to.

1''? you mean 1'' LESS than stock rim?

Your stock moab wheels have 6.25'' backspacing
If you upgrade your tire to 12.5 wide you will need to decrease backspacing to 4.5-4.75'' to push tire outside

No I found a set of rims with 1" of backspacing. And I have a set of 35 12.5 tires. Will this put stress on the studs? Or am I looking at it wrong?

I'm not sure what a 1" BS would look like. I picture the wheels sticking 3-4 " beyond the flare. I have a narrower wheel (16x8's) with 4" BS and it sticks about 1/2" out from the flare. I'm not sure of the answer for you. What wheel is it?

Will this put stress on the studs?
Yes

Or am I looking at it wrong?
Nope. Assuming that is the correct BS, your tires will be sticking out 5.25" further on each side. It is going to look silly, and will stress the bearings, etc. I would recommend passing. But I would also question whether that is the correct BS, or a misprint...
