Questions About TF Front LCA Install
My 4 door JK had a caster of 2.6 degrees after the TF 2.5 install I did back in the spring. I have driven it for a while like that, and never cared for the flighty feel. I just received, and installed, some TF Front LCAs. I have a few questions about the install.
- With the TF recommended LCA lengths, I was not able to get the front of the LCA attached at the axle end. I tried ratchet straps, jacking up at the LCA bracket, jacking up at the tie rod, all the recommendations. I finally shortened the LCA to 23 1/8 on driver side and 23 1/4 on passenger. Is this OK for a 4 Door? Recommended was 23 7/8 driver and 24 1/8 passenger.
- My Jeep steers a bit to the left now. Should I increase the driver side some more, or re-align the wheel?
- My grease gun was not getting grease in to the zerk fittings. The fitting would not accept grease. I just sprayed some White Lithium grease on the ball joint for now. Will that do?
I don't have the JKU, but recently installed the TF lift and LCA's. Their recommended settings were right on the money. Are you sure you had the joints properly lined up and measured center to center? Try measuring them while they are installed, going from center to center of the bolts. If you shortened them by 3/4" that should make a huge difference. I think you want 5˚ of caster. That is what I had before and after the install.
My install was fairly easy because I put them in while reinstalling the axle after having it out for sleeves and gussets.
I was able to grease all my joints, but a couple were pretty tight.

I started with the recommended settings and then adjusted accordingly to dial in the caster using an angle finder. You have to do this with wheels on and the Jeep on the ground. I also found it to be easier to remove and adjust the LCAs this way.
I did drive with the TF recommended length for about a week. I felt the steering was a little unresponsive. So I reduced it to 23." The steering felt a lot better and closer to stock with the 23." It reduced the flighty steering for me. Good luck.
As for getting the front of the LCA attached at the axle end, I too had this problem. What worked for me was to raise the frame high enough where the axle was really dangling (one side at a time with one wheel attached). I then used a second jack (hydraulic floor jack) and raised the front axle ends to where the LCA was able aligned. I worked one end at a time and tightened when all four wheels are on the floor. Hope this make sense.
