Default Quick question about Dynatrac diff cover?

I am about to change the diff fluid and noticed that there are two holes in my new Dynatrac diff cover. The fill hole and another smaller one just below it. What is that smaller hole? I am assuming it is the fluid level hole. Meaning when you start to see diff fluid coming out the diff is full because the fill hole is up pretty high on the cover. So if I fill to that fill hole figuring it will start to spit out the breather hole. Thanks

Yes the smaller one is the full level.

Default Dynatrac Diff Fluid Change

OK, so it has been a little more than 600 miles since NorthRidge 4x4 installed a new, Dynatrac D44 axle housing stuffed with 5.13 gears, ARB locker, RCV shafts and Ried Racing Knuckles in my 2008 JK Unlimited X, replacing the stock D30 and now I need to change the fluid before any more driving.

After a quick search, I found this post and a Project-JK write up http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-write-...hange-write-up on how to change the diff fluid on what I think are stock Rubi axles.

My questions are:
  1. Does the Dynatrac Axle take the same amount of fluid as the Rubicon stock front axle?
  2. The Dynatrac Axle does not seem to have a drain fitting like the stock Rubi axle. I expect I will have to remove the cover to drain the fluid (not so much a question as an observation)

Anyway, I would welcome a response from someone who might want to share their experience and I will email NorthRidge to see if they used lube lockers (I think they did) or should I make a trip to town for some RTV sealant before pulling the cover off the Dynatrac to change fluid.

Hey that looks the same as my front end. You should be able to see if theres a gasket in there as they have some thickness. The PR44 doesn't have a drain like the OEM 30 or 44. On the first drain I'd pull the cover anyway and give it a good spray down with brake cleaner and have a look inside. If you got it from Northridge you won't have any issues. I see your track bar hanging whats up.

Yep, you'll have to pull the cover. I've got the same setup except 5.38s, just changed the oil a couple of weeks ago. Getting the cover off sucked, I thought I'd be smart and put a lube locker gasket on but the one I got didn't match up. Not sure if the Prorock has a different shape or if I just got the wrong one but I ended up using rtv again so I'll have fun getting that cover off next time too.
