Default Quick question about shocks.

If I have a 2" lift, and buy 3" lift shocks, will anything be compromised? I.e. Ride quality, suspension travel, etc?

I have a 2 in skyjacker budget boost spacer lift. Looking to get new rear shocks, but want to eventually upgrade springs as well. Like the black diamond a/t shocks in 3 in. Just wondered if I could put the 3 in shocks on now with the 2 in lift, because unfortunately my current rear shocks are baaaad. Just trying to save a double shock purchase .

Yes you can just make sure you are not bottoming them out or over extending them and you will be fine

Would it be possible to over extend them??? If the shock is designed for a taller lift? Bottoming them out makes sense, meaning compressing the shock fully before the axle hits the bump stop yes?

Here is the thing with shocks that most don't say

One you should by shocks that the right travel and lenth that is made for your setup , buying shocks based on your life is just a general area

You can have a 2" lift but actually need shocks that are for a 3 to 3.5 lift depending on your setup

So can you over extend them maybe yeah maybe no but keep a eye out and test your travel to make sure

But a 4" shock from one vendor, may only be the same length as a 2.5" shock from another vendor. Eg. The ran ho 4" short arm front shock is just over 25" long, where most 4" shocks are over 27" long.
