Default Raptor linning OEM bumpers Friday - has anyone done this?

I am doing my stock bumpers on Friday ( love 9/80's ) - I have seen threads about grills, tubs etc - has anyone done their stock bumpers?? If so did you tape off or did you remove the bumpers to shoot them??

Also going to cover my Tuffy security deck hardware as well.

Any pics or tips is appreciated!

Ok - so maybe I am the only one.... For those who have done tubs - did you use wire tape, or will blue tape work? If blue, do you pull the tape before it fully dries? I am thinking the tape would just stay put if you let it dry around the liner - not good.

Any advise is appreciated - doing this Friday!

Default No experience - Lots of research

You can use pain old blue or green painters tape. You will need to take it off after doing the second coat, but before it is totally dried. You don't need to retape in between coats.

I went through one of the Raptor threads and the guy called up the manufacture and they said that it wasn't good on plastic like the fenders. I would think that would mean that you shouldn't really use it on the factory bumper. I think it was in this thread ,but I cannot seem to find it. https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-w...-liner-145214/

I have seen just a very few threads where people have had issues with it coming up in the tub. I personally think that this is probably from them taking out the sound deading stuff (and/or sanding down to bare metal) and not using some sort of self-etching primer like they recommend (http://www.u-pol.com/documents/datas...RLB-TDS-US.pdf). So that is my round about way of saying that if you still want to do it I would try to find a primer that will stick to plastic very well and apply that first.

OTHER TIPS THAT ARE COMING TO MIND
Don't tilt or shake the sprayer when full or it will come out the top air vent

Wear gloves because it will not come off your hands

It's bugging me that I cannot find that thread. Anyways you might find this one useful.

I do know that the texture is dependent upon the pressure. However, I don't know what size tank they recommend or what flow rate. I have received one reply from them, but they unfortunately it left out the tank size. I will post up their recommendations once they are all received. Thus far though I know the following:
  • Recommended pressure range- 40-70 psi.
  • Lower pressures (40 psi) would be yield a courser texture, while higher pressures (70 psi) would yield a finer texture.
  • Distance and speed across the work surface will effect texture also.
  • Shooting above 70 psi will result in the product bouncing off the surface. This means wasted material.
  • Flow rate - The Shutz gun will consume 5.5 cfm @ 85 psi, less at a lower pressure.
Happy Raptoring y'all!
