Default Re-centering steering wheel

I just installed a 2.5" Rough Country BB today and reading up had planned on recentering the wheel when I was done. The thing is, I took it for a test drive and it looks straight to me. Has anyone not had to adjust wheel after raising the front 2.5"? I don't have the straightest roads around here, so it was difficult to tell for sure... would it hurt anything to drive it with the ESP, or whatever it is, turned off? Would that not stop the problems associated with the wheel being off. That way it would give me a chance to get out on the highway to take a better look. Thanks in advance!

It's not uncommon to not have to recenter the steering wheel with smaller lifts. It should be just fine. If later you find that it is off center it probably won't be very much.

My ESP light came on after installing my lift. I knew this might happen so I had already planned on taking it to a tire shop for alignment.

hntndawg - After I installed my 2.5” lift I took it for a test drive without centering the steering wheel. It drove without any warnings for about 10 miles then it came on. I drove back home and centered the steering wheel and the warning went away.

You don’t have to have a straight road to center your wheels (though it does help). You just need to make sure your front wheels are pointing straight ahead before you adjust the steering wheel. I looked down at the edge of the tires and fender on both sides until the looked the same, then centered the steering wheel - I eyeballed it and used a level, then took it out and it was fine.

I put a 2" BB on and my wheel didn't need to be re centered and that was about two mo. ago.

The FACTORY centering is within a RANGE...so, if the range was shaded to one side or the other, it can affect whether or not a small lift will bring you out of range or not...so some people get the light, and some don't, depending on how it was from the factory to start with, etc.

Well after driving to work (35 miles), it looks like the steering wheel might be slightly counterclockwise, but I never got a light or anything. Should I even try to mess with it or just leave well enough alone? Would hate to start messing with it and get it futher off than it was

mine was a little off after doing my lift also. I actually preferred it like that as it was at a great angle for "elbow in the window, one armed driving" LOL....
...then I went wheeling one weekend in some deep ruts and came out of that and it was centered again lol....so I tightened everything up and good to go
