Default Re-gear ???

What determines which install kit you use when you re-gear ?. Overhaul Kit, Rebuild Kit ?. I'm not going to wheel it until I re-gear it, and I would like to wait until after the Holidays to re-gear it. It will have under 2000 "easy" miles when I do it. I didn't want to spend the extra $$ unless I need to.

I m was thinkin the same thing too when I saw the different kits. Ive never installed gears, but here is my understanding of it. So Im not 100% sure , but the overhaul kits replaces the bearing too, which you wouldnt need if your bearing are ok. The install kit comes with an assortment of install shims etc to set your gears up properly when they are installed. Im assuming if you are a shop that installs gears you would already have an assortment of the shims etc on hand, if not you need the install kit.

I've seen the overhaul kit, it has three bearings, the crush sleeve, shims, bolts and the dye for marking the gears
The overhaul kit is the cheeper kit.

I think the install kit comes with everything but the bearings. Im not sure what factors require the bearing to be replaced though, Im assumming miles and wear. I dont think its a must when you regear
